Commissioner Francis Mwonga said the government has experienced some challenges in the
implementation of the land policy. Mr Mwonga added that the government will peg demarcations in areas prone to land conflicts. “We are all aware that land disputes are on the rise recently; there are conflicts between farmers and pastoralists as well as those involving investors and villagers,” said Mr Mwonga.
The Central zone land commissioner, Mr Hezekiel Kilya, said the government wants to review the
policy in order to reflect the current land use and ownership. “We want to make sure that land ownership and use is sustainable that is why we will review the 1995 land policy,” said Mr Kitlya.
Reading his 2016/17 budget speech, minister for agriculture, livestock and fisheries Mwigulu
Nchemba said the government has reviewed some of the village boundaries in a bid to address land
conflicts between farmers and pastoralists.
According to Mr Nchemba, currently, the government plans to demarcate the land between farmers
and pastoralists in Mvomero District.
