Psychologists included There's actually a reason why hate hearing the word MOIST

IF YOU had to pick one word you’d happily never, ever hear uttered again, what would it be?
Chances are you’re thinking of MOIST, if new research is anything to go by. Psychologists included 2,500 people in a new study, and 18% of them said they had a “categorically adverse” reaction to the word.We take that to mean it causes an involuntary shudder on pretty much every occasion they are unlucky enough to hear someone say it.
The team found young people, ladies and those with high levels of education had a particular hatred for the word.Nothing else seemed to impact who did and didn’t like it according to the professionals, who looked at things like religion and politics too. The next step was for the researchers to uncover exactly what it is about ‘moist’ which causes such universal loathing.

Guess what? There is a proper reason why it makes us come over all funny.
Firstly, people tend to have issues with words which can be used in a lot of different ways.
If you think about it that’s the case for moist – a cake can be moist, but so can an armpit or sweaty T-shirt.

This makes good sense, the word moist repels us because it makes us think of nasty things.Another reason is that we can start hating a word that other people tell us is awful.

Or it could be the face that’s to blame. Saying some words cause us to use the same facial muscles which go into action when we see or hear or smell something we hate. The body then links this to an emotional state – in this case that we’re unhappy.
